K-Pop Showdown: Are BTS the best K-Pop Group of all time?

If you haven’t heard of BTS by now you might as well be living under a rock!

The seven-member group, who debuted in June 2013, shot to international acclaim last year after winning Billboard’s Top Social Artist award over artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

They’ve maintained their international fame through US T.V. appearances on Ellen, The Late Late Show with James Corden, The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America. As well as their large social media presence, BTS has collaborated with a few U.S artists like Nicki Minaj, Steve Aoki and The Chainsmokers. Not only are they the first K-pop group to break into the US market this successfully, but they’re also the first to speak at the U.N, touching on their Love Myself campaign in collaboration with UNICEF in which they raised more than US$986,000 over the past year.

The concepts/themes in their songs resonate with their fans as they touch on self-love, mental health and school pressure. Even the South Korean president, Moon Jae-In, has praised BTS’s success writing,  “Each of the seven members sings in a way that is true to himself and the life he wants to live. Their melody and lyrics transcend regional borders, language, culture, and institutions.
