G-Dragon tickets go on sale today: Here’s everything you need to know!

One of the biggest and most storied artists from Korea, G-Dragon, is coming to Melbourne as part of his Act III, M.O.T.T.E World Tour this August. Hello Asia! has put together everything you need to know about this K-Pop phenomenon who has shaped music, fashion and culture in Asia for the past decade.

Melbourne was introduced to G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji Yong) when he toured with his group BIGBANG in 2015 as part of the MADE world tour. We got a taste back then of the artistry, charisma and musical abilities of G-Dragon. He comes back to Melbourne on Saturday 12th August at Hisense Arena for his first ever solo concert, part of the largest world tour ever put on by a Korean artist, spanning 4 continents and 18 countries. The tour kicked off in Korea on 10th June 2017 and will continue through the rest of this year.

What does Act III M.O.T.T.E mean?

Act III represent G-Dragon’s third decade in life and the Korean translation of M.O.T.T.E means ‘from birth’ in Korean. It is also an acronym for “Moment Of Truth The End”. So what does that mean? Is G-Dragon hinting at a final hurrah? Could this be the last time Melbourne fans get to see G-Dragon before he rides off into the sunset? (…well compulsory military service to be exact). As he said at his Singapore concert last weekend “I have to go somewhere soon” with a military salute “For maybe one an a half, maybe two years. So this might be my last show for awhile.”

A more personal look at G-Dragon

Melbourne fans will get to experience both G-Dragon and Kwon Ji Yong at Act III M.O.T.T.E. The brash, charismatic “GD” is of course on show, but fans will get a taste of the real Kwon Ji Yong and the man behind the façade. We get a personal look into the life of Kwon Ji Yong from his early days as leader of BIGBANG to what is now the biggest name in K-Pop today.

Stunning Visuals and Sound

Rocking a live band with some of the best session musicians in the world, the entire Act III M.O.T.T.E concert will be one of the best musically, putting a spotlight on G-Dragon’s life. The show will rock retro vibes and will be made complete with visuals to match. With red as the signature colour throughout the concert, pyrotechnics and visuals gives G-Dragon’s Melbourne fans a peek into how he lives his life – even from those close to him.

G-Dragon fashion

As an ambassador of Chanel, G-Dragon has become the style icon of not just K-Pop but all of Asia. He has admitted to packing suitcases full of Chanel pieces as he travels throughout the world. Melbourne fans will get to witness in person the reason why G-Dragon’s style is not just mimicked and copied by others in Asia, but blazing a trail for other Korean artists worldwide. Just check out his airport fashion that has fans queuing up to see him when he arrives in airports all over the world.
