Japan’s annual Music Station Ultra Fes enjoys biggest lineup ever for 2018 broadcast

Japan’s annual special broadcast, Music Station Ultra Fes 2018, aired today at 12pm JST.

The Japanese music show, Music Station, is a live broadcast show that introduces Japan’s current hits. The artists are invited to perform their songs, and guests outside of music come on to the show to talk as well.  

The special edition broadcast, “Music Station Ultra Fes”, started in 2015 when the program celebrated its 30th anniversary. Every September since, current and past artists have come together for the Ultra Fes to celebrate the best of Japanese music regardless of era or genre. This year’s theme for the broadcast is “Famous songs you can dance to” and will be live for 10 hours!

61 artists are set to perform- the shows biggest lineup ever- including AKB48, Arashi, Perfume, KAT-TUN, Hey!Say!Jump, Utada Hikaru and more. The show will also include special interviews, collaboration stages, a performance by the cast of the musical Cats, and a medley of dance hits from the 20th and 21st century.  

Additionally, there will be a special segment on the show for Utada Hikaru’s 20th anniversary. The segment will feature an interview with Utada and Music Station’s host Tamori. It will also feature a clip of Utada’s first appearance on Music Station.
