K-pop’s first openly gay singer Holland launches mini album crowdfunding project

South Korea’s first openly gay singer Holland has launched a crowdfunding project with online service, MyMusicTaste, to raise money for his new mini album.

In collaboration with MyMusicTaste, an online service that allows music fans to request their favorite artists’ live performance, Holland’s crowdfunding project aims to raise US $50,000 to produce a new mini album and music video. When the project closes and the funding goal is reached, supporters will be rewarded with benefits, ranging from a special one-on-one meal date with Holland to receiving a rainbow flag.

Holland’s mini album crowdfunding project will close on October 20, at 18:00 KST. Those who pledged Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond packages by September 9, 18:00 KST will receive a signed mini album when the project is successfully completed.

After making his debut in January as the first openly gay Korean singer, Holland has caught the attention of Kpop fans around the world and has gained a huge social media following. His debut single, ‘Neverland’, featured a same-sex romance between two men, which caused a stir in Korean media as LGBTQ issues are rarely addressed in pop culture. The music video has since gained international attention, with over 9.6 million views on Youtube since its release. Recognised for his social influence, the K-pop star has been featured in Billboard, Forbes, and Cosmopolitan, and won over American artists like Sadie Sink and Millicent Simmonds to be voted first place in 2018’s Dazed 100.
