Vietnamese rapper Suboi returns to SXSW and drops new MV “Đời”

Suboi

Vietnamese Queen of Hip Hop Suboi is returning to SXSW with two huge showcases that will cement her as one of Vietnam’s hottest music exports.

An outspoken artist who raps via coded lyrics about family, love, social pressures and illegal substances in a communist country where artists regularly worry about being censored and banned by the authorities. Born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, Suboi is the first successful Vietnamese female rapper. She became a fan of hip hop music at the age of 14 and improved her English by listening and rapping along to famous American rappers such as Eminem and Mos Def.

We first caught (and interviewed) Suboi at SXSW 2015 at the Brooklyn Vegan showcase as Vietnam’s first ever SXSW artist. Since then she has sold out shows in New York City, San Francisco, toured Russia and opened for Skrillex in her native Vietnam.

Suboi just released a brand new track and music video titled “Đời” (which translates to “Team”).

Suboi will be performing “Đời” and many more of her hits at the following showcases:
