Cindy Yen is finally back after a long break with her new single “I Love Myself”, the theme song for this year’s Cotton USA campaign. Initially debuting with her signature sweet R n B sound, Yen has gone on to try electronic dance and pop genres and such in her past works, but this new single is a homage to her R n B roots which fans will definitely appreciate.

I’ve always felt that Cindy’s expertise always lay in the R & B persuasion, as it’s a genre that she feels most comfortable in, and is one that┬árenders her voice more voluminous and dynamic. Thus, upon listening to this song, I was so excited to see her going back to her R & B roots, once again creating music that I truly felt reflected her personality; upbeat, sweet and optimistic.

The arrangement is fresh and clean, composing of poppy electronic beats and Yen’s light backing vocals; however the gold of this song lies in it’s upbeat and catchy melody. The syncopation in the chorus “Cause this is the dream we made/no matter how much it takes” catches the audience by attention, inviting them to involve themselves in the relaxing and groovy beat of the song. Furthermore, the lyrics by Vincent Fang are clean and heartfelt, presenting a message of self-love that is dedicated to Cindy’s mom, encouraging her to take better care of herself and not just of others.

Overall, really happy with this new work of Cindy’s; this is a style that she’s really made hers and I think she should really bank on it and continue expanding in this direction!
