HallyuPopFest 2019 Highights

Missed the largest K-Pop Festival in Singapore? Fret not, we have the deets to keep you in the loop.

Held over the weekend of 25th and 26th May, HallyuPopFest 2019 welcomed a long list of highly praised K-Pop acts. Headlining the festival were Super JuniorWINNERMONSTA X, NU’EST, HyolynKARDPENTAGON, (G)I-DLE, and more.

Day 1 Highlights

Greeting their Singapore fans for the first time, the 7-member GWSN looking beautiful in white. The up-and-coming girl group invited loud cheers as they did a dance cover of TWICE’s “TT”. The girls also shared that they would like to try a powerful and energetic concept for their future comeback.

Having travelled around the world to meet their international fans, A.C.E is back to greet their Singaporean fans for third time. Even so, the members shared that they would like to visit Sentosa and Merlion Park if they had the time. During the Red Carpet, Kim Byeongkwan’s sexy and powerful dance moves sent fans into a fit of roaring cheers.

The group showcased a stellar performance of JJ Lin’s “Always Online” and mentioned their wish for a future collaboration with the Singapore’s artist.

N.Flying really knows how to throw a performance. Stealing hearts with passionate stage and energetic performances, the first act kicked off Day 1’s evening concert with their hit tracks such as “HOW R U TODAY”, “Rooftop” and “Spring Memories”. They had so much fun on stage, it was so much fun watching them, too.

Dressed in bright red, Oh My Girl astonished the crowd with several of their hit numbers including “Secret Garden”, “Liar Liar”, and their latest comeback track “The Fifth Season”.

One of the most anticipated groups during HallyuPopFest 2019, NU’EST, has finally returned to Singapore as a full force. Showing off a glorious stage on Day 1, with their famous hits such as “Hello”, “Segno”, “Bet Bet”, NU’EST made fans long wait definitely worth while.

When asked about what fans can look forward to this year, Baekho answered that it has been awhile since the 5 of them gathered as a group. So instead of rushing things out, he hoped that fans could anticipate and watch them grow further. Minhyun added that being able to show their stages and performances is their definition of happiness, and they were glad that they could visit Singapore and perform for the fans.

NU’EST will be returning to Singapore very soon for their own concert this August and this will be their first full-scale concert in Singapore since their last L.O.Λ.E Tour in 2013.

The vocal queen of all genres, Hyolyn treated fans to a power-packed setlist at the concert, as she dominated the stage with all-time hits “Dally”, “SEE SEA”, “Paradise”, as well as a special medley of SISTAR songs.

At the red carpet event, the female powerhouse declared her love for Singaporean food, naming Chilli crabs as one of the must-have dishes whenever she makes a visit here. Hyolyn also named American rapper and songwriter Cardi B as one of the artistes whom she looks up to and hopes to collaborate with if there’s an opportunity in the future.

Finally, the headlining act of Day 1’s evening concert, WINNER got everyone in the crowd cheering and screaming at their loudest the moment they walked the Red Carpet. The group shared their source of inspiration when creating an album stating, “Whenever we produce music, we think of our fans and us singing out loud to it. That’s how our music came about.”

The atmosphere skyrocketed and turned into a party as WINNER covered their hit songs one after another. From their debut song “Empty” to their classic and latest hits “AH YEAH”, “MILLIONS”, “REALLY REALLY” and more. The concert ended on an incredibly explosive note, leaving fans screaming for more.

Day 2

The second day of HallyuPopFest started with afternoon showcase by up-and-coming artistes TREI, Kanto, and VERIVERY.

3-member idol group, TREI, greeted fans brightly while sharing about their music and their desire to return to Singapore for a concert in the near future.

As self-producing idols, the group also shared that their source of inspiration when producing music is their fans when. And even though it has only been 3 months since their debut, they would like to do a collaboration with other artistes when the opportunity arises.

Entering the Red Carpet next was Rapper Kanto. Kanto revealed that he will be busy with performances for the second half of the year. He has also been preparing for a collaboration, and named NU’EST Baekho and A.C.E Chan as the ones he hopes to join forces and work with.

On meeting and greeting his Singapore fans, Kanto learned some Singlish or Singapore English, inviting loud cheers from the crowd.

VERIVERY made their way to the Red Carpet stage in all smiles after the rapper. Greeting fans in all corners with their trademark introduction, the 7-member boy group from Jellyfish Entertainment shared their goal for 2019… which is to receive a rookie award at the end of the year! VERIVERY brightly promised to work hard and show a better version of themselves in their next album. And we are so looking forward to it!

(G)I-DLE shared their excitement of being in Singapore to perform for the fans during the Red Carpet. Member Yuqi explained that they had
visited Singapore for a photoshoot prior to their debut. And the bungee jumping experience they had at Sentosa was one of their fondest memories in the sunny island.

(G)I-DLE opened the day 2’s evening concert with charismatic charms and powerful hit songs like “MAZE”, “HANN”, and “LATATA”.

The only co-ed group to grace the festival, KARD showed off great chemistry as they candidly talked about switching parts of their song with another member. J.Seph picked Jiwoo’s part as she always deliver a lot of impact and energy when she sings. On the other hand, Jiwoo chose B.M and said she would like to try his rap part one day.

Hoping to greet fans with another album soon, the HallyuPopFest 2019’s fan-favourite act wowed the crowd at the concert with their incredible energy and addictive tracks such as “Oh NaNa”, “Don’t Recall” and “Bomb Bomb”, which had everyone singing along!

Looking stunning and shining at the Red Carpet stage, PENTAGON greeted Singapore UNIVERSE with all smiles. When asked about the member who is most different on and off stage, the group playfully picked Wooseok and made him flaunt his off-stage fun side with hilarious poses for the camera. PENTAGON treated fans to a set of their hits including fan-favourite “Shine”, “Critical Beauty”, “Naughty Boy” and “Violet”.

Set to return this November for their very own World Tour, PENTAGON revealed that Singapore will be their last destination for the tour and superstars are looking forward to deliver special performances just for Singapore UNIVERSE.

If hip hop and R&B influence is more your cup of tea, MONSTA X is perfect for you. Performing their signature uniquely energetic and strong musical style, MONSTA X really played it cool and proved themselves to be talented singers, rappers and dancers. Breathtaking doesn’t do justice to the experience of seeing the K-pop princes in the flesh.

Not only indulging Monbebe with their versatile track list such as “DRAMARAMA”, “Alligator”, “From Zero” and “Need U’, the heartthrobs also went around the stadium to get intimate with their fans!

Hands down to the kings of K-Pop, Super Junior. Showing their juniors how to have a good time, the finale act of the night ended HallyuPopFest 2019 with a bang as they performed classic hits including the widely known “Sorry Sorry”, “Bonamana”, member Lee Donghae’s very own production “One More Chance”. Super Junior even surprised fans with special solo stages by Yesung, Ryeowook, and sub-unit stage by Super Junior D&E!

Celebrating their 14th anniversary this September, leader Leeteuk shared that there is no particular secret to their teamwork. As they spend a lot of time together, they think of each other and their fans as a family. The veterans added that they are looking forward to release a new album together as a team in the later half of this year as member Kyuhyun has officially completed his military service.

HallyuPopFest 2019 would agree that the star-studded weekend ended on a high note. We can’t wait to see what the festival has to offer next year, already!
