Sigur Ros is coming to Australia next week and it’s exactly the kind of experience we need right now

Ahead of their first studio album since 2013’s idiosyncratic and widely acclaimed Kveikur, Icelandic music royalty Sigur Ros is just about to kick off a long-overdue tour of Australia. With live music now firmly back on the cards, it’s about time we’ve got something as immersive and ethereal as this unimpeachable Icelandic band, who have been breaking / healing hearts for years with profound songs like “Festival” and “Starálfur”.

With tickets still left for some of their shows, we thought of adding a bit of urgency for those who left it to the last minute to buy tickets to see Sigur Ros live. And if you’ve seen them before, you know witnessing this band live is a show comparable to none. The often intensely emotional, relentlessly beautiful art rock they produce on stage elevates the experience of listening to them weave together these beautiful songs.

Don’t believe me? Check out these three videos of them live and hear for yourself as they bring to life songs from their acclaimed 25-year-old discography.

If watching them live through your computer screen is a mind-blowing experience, imagine what it’s like live. Then take that imagination and add a thick, deeply affecting layer of otherworldliness and you just might get the idea of what Australia is in for.
