Vikings actors Travis Fimmel and Alexander Ludwig mingle with fans at The Big Viking Picnic

Australian actor Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Warcraft) attended The Big Viking Picnic held at Grove Gardens in Kells, Co. Meath in Ireland over the weekend, an event that came about due to his association with children’s cancer charity, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.

The event included overnight camping, a Viking village, longship, as well as live music and entertainment that continued well into the night. It also saw over 800 people, many children, assemble with colourful, home-made Viking shields to set a world record for the biggest Viking shield wall. Over 1000 tickets had been sold prior to the picnic, hailed a wonderful family event and huge success by founder of the charity, Jimmy Norman.

Fimmel, who is currently in Ireland shooting season 4 of Vikings, arrived at the event in the evening after a long day of filming accompanied by fellow cast mate Alexander Ludwig. In happy spirits, he mingled with delighted fans, signing shields and artwork and posing for photographs. The actor became an ambassador for the charity in May and it was this association that led to the event being organised.

“The whole concept was dreamt up by Natasha White, she brought the idea to Aoibheann’s Pink Tie due to our links with Travis. So our association with Travis led to our single biggest fund raising event,” Mr Norman said.

The Big Viking Picnic raised over 20,000 euros for the charity that assists and brightens the lives of children with cancer all over Ireland.
