Japanese rock act THE ORAL CIGARETTES returns to Singapore to perform at SPACE SHOWER RETSUDEN ASIA TOUR 2017. We chat to the guys about their latest album UNOFFICIAL.

Hi guys! It’s been a few years since we last spoke at Music Matters in Singapore. You have released three studio albums since that time. Let’s talk about your latest album UNOFFICIAL which was just released. Talk to us about the concept and message of UNOFFICIAL?

From emotions that are felt off-stage (“unofficial”) to events that occurred, we captured that in our lyrics. At the same time, we don’t want to be caught up with the opinions of others (what seems to be the “official” point of view) and believe in ourselves and abilities. That pretty much sums up the concept for the “UNOFFICIAL” album.

How has the sound of THE ORAL CIGARETTES changed from The BKW Show!! To UNOFFICIAL? And what does the name “UNOFFICIAL” mean?

For the songs in “UNOFFICIAL,” we imagined doing a show on a bigger stage and also focused more on the melody. As for deciding the title, we wanted to make a statement that we should not be too caught up about other people’s opinion and that we should be able to judge what is best for ourselves.

What’s your favourite track on UNOFFICIAL? And why?

It’s the song “LOVE.” This song expresses our love to everyone (audience, staff and friends).

What’s your thoughts of performing at the SPACE SHOWER RETSUDEN ASIA TOUR 2017 in Singapore?

We have been in Singapore once to do a show previously and we really look forward to meeting everyone again this time!

What’s THE ORAL CIGARETTES plans for 2017? Any plans for a national or international tour to promote “UNOFFICIAL”? When are we going to see THE ORAL CIGARETTES in Australia?

We currently don’t have any plans for an overseas concert yet but we do hope that we will be able to do more shows overseas in the near future.

THE ORAL CIGARETTES is performing at the SPACE SHOWER RETSUDEN ASIA TOUR 2017 on Thursday 16th March at MILLIAN SINGAPORE. For more information see HERE.
