GARNiDELiA

Hello Asia! sat down with J-pop rock duo GARNiDELiA. They told us about their thoughts on Sydney, their Anisong live, their album ‘Linkage Ring’ and more. You can watch the full interview below! (TURN ON YOUR CAPTIONS FOR ENGLISH SUBTITLES)

What is your impression of Sydney?

It’s our first time coming to Sydney. It’s also our first time coming to Australia. It gave us a very metropolitan impression – seeing the Opera House and the harbour. But the place that we’re at today…it’s a racecourse. So it’s a different impression. But we’re going to the city after this and we’re looking forward to it.

How was your Anisong performance?

It was our first Australian live so we didn’t really know what to expect and we were really anticipating it. We thought, ‘Will we get a good response?’. But we realised that Japanese and other countries’, Australia’s audiences are different.
Whichever country you go to, the audience will always be a little different. But Australia will have a really unique feeling right?

Can you tell us about the album that you released earlier this year?

‘Linkage Ring’…the points (highlights)…
It’s made up of a lot of different genres. We wanted people to listen to it and see that us two could do many different genres.
It’s quite broad in terms of musical genres and that’s all together in the one album. So having just us two really put the album together took quite a long time. We wanted it to be an album where many types of people would still be able to pick a favourite song.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Firstly, it’s really soon, but on 26 August, we rerecorded the songs that we made during our indie days and compiled them into a 15 song album, and that will be released.

Do you wish you could have performed more shows?

We wanted to!
Please call us.

Do you want to come back then?

Yes I want to come!

Do you have a message for your Australian fans?

We were able to perform live here in Australia for the first time so we were really happy about that, and it was fun. It seemed like everybody was really anticipating us so we’re really happy. We’ll try really hard to come back to Australia again. But please come and see us in Japan too if you can! Thank you!
