J-Pop princess Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has been one of the most successful recording artists from Japan both domestically and internationally. Her outrageously addictive music videos, catchy tunes and Harajuku inspired fashion has inspired her followers to the explore the concept of Kawaii and Decora in Japanese pop culture. We chat with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu on her career so far and her upcoming Australian tour.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, you have just released a brand new single ‘Sai & Co.’ Can you tell us the meaning of the song and the music video?

To celebrate my 5th anniversary, Yasutaka Nakata (CALUSLE) wrote this song for me. Including a special thanks to all my dedicated team, staff and most of all to my fans, I wanted to put a very happy and powerful energy into this track so that everybody can enjoy!

You are celebrating the 5th anniversary since your debut. What have been some of the highlights in your career over the past five years? What do you hope to achieve in the next five years?

This 5 years just passed like a blink, trying so many new things. It’s hard to pick just one highlight, but going on the world tour was definitely an achievement for me. After only a few years of a career in Japan, I didn’t imagine being able to visit other parts of the world. This will be my 3rd world tour, I will sure enjoy and bring my best.

What is it like working with your long time collaborator Yasutaka Nakata?

I was a huge fan of him even before my debut. I was just shocked 5 years ago to have found out that he would produce me, and I am still in the same state of awe even after 5 years.

Last time you came to Australia was in 2014 for the Nanda Collection World Tour. The tour itself was a great success with a sold out show in Sydney. Were you surprised at all with the amount of fans you have in Australia? Why do you think you are popular with Australian audiences?

To find not only Australia, but other parts of the world cheering me and supporting me with my music and coming to my shows is just an amazing feeling and I am so humbled. I remember my last Sydney show, I received this overwhelming energy from fans! I would like to return the same energy to people in Australia this time on the stage.

What are you looking forward to most for your upcoming Australian tour? Is there anything special you would like to do this time in Australia?

I am so looking forward to meeting fans in Australia after 2 years!

For the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu 5iVE YEARS MONSTER WORLD TOUR 2016 what can the audience look forward to?

I will perform my new song “5iVE YEARS MONSTER”, and the theme this time is flowers and plants, which will be all over the stage and my wardrobe. I will bring pop and the colorful Kyary Pamyu Pamyu stage to Australia.

What are KPP’s plans for rest of 2016? Do you have a message for your Australian fans?

After coming back from traveling the world, I will have a final show at Budokan to conclude this world tour. Budokan is a big venue, and so is the stage production, if you have a chance to come visit me in Japan, please come!

I can’t wait to see you all at my shows in Australia!
