The legendary hip-hop trio, Epik High has released their long awaited new album sleepless in __ along with a music video for title track “Lovedrunk” featuring IU and Jin Seoyeon’s stellar acting. And dare we say… they have definitely done something wonderful this time, too.
Presenting the world with their best album to date, sleepless in __ is gloriously magical. It seems like South Korea is in agreement; sleepless in __ has been ranked was the number one album in South Korea moments after its release. Sweeping every chart, owning trending tags, crashing the world wide web. Epik, right?
“Lovedrunk” narrates the agony of insomnia, depression, loneliness, painful memories, and coming to understand how alcohol tastes sweet in such situations. Featuring sophisticated, soft beats and Crush’s excellent harmonisation to the group’s hard-hitting raps, the track was composed by Tablo and DJ Tukutz, penned by Tablo and Mithra Jin, and arranged by Tukutz and PHILTRE.
Set in South Korea’s village, the music video was directed by Park Baejong, director of the successful film “Welcome to Dongmakgol”. Starring IU and Jin Seoyeon, who perfectly portrayed the relationship between a martial arts master and her pupil in its complexity, the cinematographic music video is sentimental and intense. It depicts the persona and intense emotions you feel when you break up with someone. Kudos to utilising ghastly monochromatic tones to highlight the insomniac, melancholic and intricately profound emotions “Lovedrunk” conveys.
Even Tablo expressed his satisfaction on how the music video turned out. During a VLive live session, the rapper explained, “Director Baejong, who directed our music video, literally created a movie for us. Actress Lee Ji Eun (IU) and actress Jin Seoyeon were so open to appearing in our music video. They created a beautiful masterpiece.”
