The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has announced that the first competitive international song contest for a television audience in Asia will be held in 2017.

The organisers of the ABU TV Song Festival and the ABU Radio Song Festival have confirmed that the ABU TV Cup Song Contest will be held for the first time at the beginning of 2017.

Past competitive song contests in Asia have had a chequered history with Asian TV Song Contest last held in Malaysia in 1991.
