In tandem with the continued and ever-growing success of GRAMMY-nominated music group and global phenomenon BTS (방탄소년단), The Rhizomatic Revolution Review (R3) has published its second issue that continues to showcase the significant impact of the band and their powerful fans known as “ARMY”.
R3 was launched in 2020 by an international group of scholars and professionals who come from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines. The team are BTS fans, themselves; a testament to the diversity of ARMY.
This interdisciplinary multimedia journal is unique as it not only embraces academic work in the traditional sense but also serves as a medium for creative self-expression in the form of academic articles, personal essays, creative writing, and artwork that are focused on a variety of themes and topics.
Through the lens of different perspectives, R3 helps to shed light on aspects of the BTS phenomenon as the group continues to make an impact on people around the world, while they continue to revolutionise the entertainment industry, breaking barriers and showcasing music’s ability to transcend language. The journal’s goal is to provide a rigorous, interdisciplinary examination and exploration of the art, fandom, economic effects, and sociocultural forces of and surrounding the record-breaking band from South Korea.
Contributions for issue two were made by 36 total authors and artists from 16 different countries: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, Philippines, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
The first issue of R3 was published in October 2020. View issue two here.
