About the festival

The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of Media Arts (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) that recognises outstanding artwork in its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. Since its establishment in 1997, the festival has awarded prizes to artwork that has been considered to be significant, creative and of artistic value. Through its annual Exhibition of Award-winning works, it has offered the public an opportunity to appreciate these celebrated works directly, and also to participate in related events such as through symposiums and artists’ lectures.

Last year, the festival received 4,192 entries from 98 countries and regions around the world. The festival has been internationally recognised as one of the most prominent showcases in the field of “Media Arts”, showcasing the latest artistic expressions that continue to change every day.
