Kan Sano, an artist shaping the sound of contemporary Japanese music, announces his first ever international livestreamed concert put on in collaboration with Japanese e-ticketing platform and events leader ZAIKO.
Play With 2020 will air on the 4th of October at 6 pm (JST), and offers listeners around the globe the chance to see one of Japan’s most influential creators and producers play his brand of pop infused with jazz, funk and electronic styles.
Kan Sano’s life has revolved around seeing what’s possible by mixing musical styles together. He studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music, and played at the Monterey Jazz Festival during his student years. From 2011, Sano began sharing his own music, melding jazz elements with a wide variety of genres to create songs nodding to the past while building a sound for today.
His 2016 album k is s won the prestigious CD Shop Award Japan, and his 2019 release Ghost Notes received critical praise across the country. Recent singles ‘DT pt. 2’ and ‘Sit At the Piano’ have accumulated over 5 millions streams each, while 2019’s video for ‘My Girl’ has over 2 million views.
Sano also works as a composer, producer and remixer for other artists, working with some of the brightest young acts in the country. He’s helping craft the sound of J-Pop in the 2020s by finding new perspectives on familiar sounds.
