One of the most skilled and adored female performers in the Asian music industry, Hong Kong’s Karen Mok is set to take on the Golden Melody Awards stage this year as one of its performers.
Of the chance to perform at the ceremony, Karen says: “The GMAs have always been a good friend to me, so I had to come out and support it this year. I hope we can give everyone an entertaining night.”
According to Mok, her performance will encompass themes of love and equality.
On the performance, Mok is said to be working with previous Golden Melody winning producer Arai Yoichiro, who will be heading up music design for her performance. Mok also speaks affectionately of Arai, saying: “These seven years, from my tour in 2009 to now, Arai and I have never stopped collaborating. We understand each other fairly well by now, so whether we’re talking about a new album or the GMA performance, it all goes very smoothly. In the end, I just hope we can give the listeners a little warmth through song.”
Karen’s performance will be accompanied by a whopping eight-person instrumental band, promising an extravagant performance on the night itself.
Although not nominated at this year’s ceremony, Karen had this to say about Sodagreen, whose lead singer Wu Tsing-Fong wrote the first single for her Departures album “Regardez”:
“The band has defined itself with a unique style. And Vivaldi Project, the band’s album series modeled on the four seasons, I cannot recommend it enough! I love these conceptual works. I hope Sodagreen wins everything they’re nominated for!”
The Golden Melody Awards will make place this year on the 25th of June at Taipei Arena. The red carpet will start at 5pm and the ceremony will start at 7pm. The festivities will be broadcasted live on TTV’s Main Channel, with a rebroadcast on TTV’s digital channel.
