Wedance (위댄스), Korean’s electrifying dance-pop duo, are dancing their way to Australian devices this spring!
Bringing their unprecedented energy and charisma to our virtual shores for four special performances across the country, will become the first Korean artists to perform for an Australian audience since March 2020.
Wedance comprises of musicians Webo and Wegi, who’s origin story is kismet; the duo met during a chance encounter on the street when Webo noticed Wegi’s unique fashion sense, recognising a kindred spirit and insisted on starting a band together. The rest is history.
Wedance’s mission is to “help people dance through their boundaries and to
experience life fully on the other side”. Often wearing outfits best described as hip-ahujumma-inspired, Wedance’s performances plays like a pied piper anthem of indie strangeness, beckoning all to join in on the alt-celebration.
Their songs are about everyday life evoking a certain nostalgia with a penchant for banging on a single cymbal in between dance breaks, dissonant vocals, dissonant guitars, and an accompanying drum/electronic track played. These musical features come together to form a glorious confluence of a-tonal, spasmodic pop bliss that can feel at once anthemic and, of course, make you move in whatever way these unique compositions compel you.
Wedance recently released their LP Dance Pop in July 2020, featuring the
certified banger, ‘Ironism’ (아이러니즘). Dance Pop is the latest in the treasure trove of glorious a-tonal, spasmodic pop bliss by way of 16 EPs and three full length albums since 2011.
Having previously performed in Australia at the 2016 Aus Asia Festival and the 2018 Bigsound Festival, as well as multiple Festival appearances throughout Asia and the world including Fuji Rock, Primavera Sound, and more, their upcoming virtual tour is not one to miss.
