Jooheon, the rapper of K-pop group Monsta X, released his debut EP DWTD on September 1st. His music video for the title track, “Red Carpet”, gained over 200k views within the first few hours of its release and reached No.1 on nine international iTunes charts, including New Zealand, Sweden and Brazil. The track was co-produced by BOYCOLD and written by Jooheon, where he was able to express himself as a rapper through his lyrics.
Jooheon comments, “I try to express the life that I’m living these days and thirst and passion about rapping”. He emphasised that he wants to express, and show the world, everything about himself not only as a rapper, but also as a person, and a member of Monsta X.
DWTD features long-time friends of Jooheon, BOYCOLD, DAKSHOO, Yeyo and 9f, as co-producers of the EP. One of the tracks on the mixtape, “Runaway” is infused with heavy beats and was co-produced with DAKSHOOD, featuring KILLAGRAMZ.
K-pop group, Monsta X, has seen international success with U.S magazine, OC Weekly, calling them “power players in the K-pop game”. They recently finished their 7-stop stateside tour dates, where they gained the attention of notable press all over the U.S including Forbes, Access Hollywood, E!, iHeart, Mario Lopez, Buzzfeed, Allure and performed on Good Day NY and Good Day LA. They have spent 38 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Social 50 chart above U.S artists such as Post Malone, Kanye West and more.
The Connect: Dejavu, their most recent album, found itself on Billboard’s major charts. Billboard, themselves, noted the album was “enough to land the guys at No.2 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and a No. 8 debut on Heatseekers Albums- a new peak for the band on the chart that sees far fewer K-pop acts entries”.
