The Taiwanese film Panay will be the opening film for this year’s upcoming Singapore International Film Festival(November 26-December 6).
Directed by Cheng Yu-chieh and Lekal Sumi, the film is about a woman who returns from urban, city life to her indigenous Taiwanese home town to look after her ill father, and experiences other reconnective experiences throughout the journey. The film also investigates the current struggles of indigenous Taiwanese communities for land rights.
‘Panay’ was chosen for its beautiful imagery, powerful message and ability to depict the story of Asia, a key aim of the Festival.
The film previously screened at the Taipei Film Festival, where it took out the audience choice award. It stars singer-songwriter Pacidal and award-winning actor Bokey Kosang.
