The Grammys of the Chinese music biz, aka The Golden Melody Awards are around the corner once again, and the Taiwan Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development let slip that they have lots in store for spectators of the event this year.
Of the festivities, Chung-Jen Chang, the Bureau’s Director General says:
“Every year, the GMA events seek to drive new energy into the Mandopop music industry. Last year, from the spectacular production of the Awards Ceremony to the business matching system introduced by the Golden Melody Festival, the entire GMA was organized with the aim of elevating the events beyond their domestic roots…The GMA successfully drew the attention from both the international and domestic markets, showcasing the diversity of Taiwan’s music culture. The events are brought to new heights each year, thanks to the passion and efforts of the domestic music industry professionals.”
Since 2016, the Golden Melody Awards has come with a string of events, include B2B networking and business matchmaking, as well as live house showcases to showcase the Taiwanese music industry’s freshest talents.
This year’s Golden Melody Awards festival will also feature past Golden Melody Award winner JJ Lin in their “GMA Talk”, sharing his story of success with students.
There will even be a “Golden Melody Academie” event which invites students majoring in audio-visual subjects to produce music videos for the likes of Aboriginal band Boxing and songstress Waa Wei. Their final projects will even be showcased in the GMA exhibitions!
On top of all this, there are also several workshops which will encourage discussions about the music industry, with themes such as recording engineering, music arrangements, and DJ techniques.
As for the showcases, watch out for the likes of Jia Jia, Boxing, Waa Wei, Murmurshow, MATZKA, Nick Chou and My Skin Against Your Skin who will be wowing the crowds with their talent.
So if you’re in Taiwan, this is one event I would check out this June.
The Golden Melody Awards and Festival will be running from the 22nd of June to 24th of June at hotel Humble House Taipei. The Awards ceremony itself will be held on the 25th of June at Taipei Arena.
