X Japan member Yoshiki is set to appear at SXSW 2016 to premiere the award-winning documentary We Are X, which chronicles his legendary Japanese rock act.

We Are X will screen three times during SXSW 2016, with a special screening on Friday 18th of March at Paramount Theatre which will be followed by a performance by Yoshiki, who will play classical versions of X Japan’s songs with a string quartet live on stage.

We Are X explores the evolution, groundbreaking history and hopeful future of the land of the rising sun’s most culturally significant and legendary rock group. The film was produced by John Battsek of Passion Pictures, producer of two Academy Award-winning documentaries (Searching For Sugarman, One Day In September), and directed by Stephen Kijak (Stones In Exile, Scott Walker: 30th Century Man).

X Japan initially split up in 1997 before reuniting in 2007 and releasing three new singles in 2015. The band is currently working on a new album in Los Angeles and aiming for a late 2016 release.
