K-Pop Phenomenon Boyfriend & JJCC coming to Carriageworks in Sydney this February!

In what’s expected to be a huge event for K-Pop fans this February, both Boyfriend and JJCC will be performing for the first time in Sydney at Carriageworks, opening the 2016 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival! It’s going to two massive nights of K-Pop boyband goodness, with SBS PopAsia’s Jamaica dela Cruz and Andy Trieu hosting the concerts as well as interviewing both bands on stage.

Boyfriend are currently dominating K-Pop, the six piece raking in the fan love and industry accolades for their music ever since their breakout in 2011 with their Boyfriend release. Also holding a solid level of popularity with K-Pop fans around the globe is JJCC, the first K-Pop idol group to be formed by Jackie Chan. With seven members of the group, JJCC also features Sydney-raised Prince Mak, the only Australian performer in the outfit.

Speaking with Carriageworks’ Director, Lisa Havilah, our Hello Asia! Editor Johnny Au learned more about the event in an exclusive interview – this February event will mark the first time a concert of this kind.

“Carriageworks have been part of the Chinese New Year celebrations for the last two or three years now.” she tells Hello Asia! “The idea of bringing out a K-Pop artist was something both we and Sydney City Council had wanted to do. The Sydney City Council had already set up discussions with SBS PopAsia about this project. So we decided to set up a partnership between the three of us to present a K-Pop project. And from that, Boyfriend and JJCC were the K-Pop acts invited. At Carriageworks we try to present a program that is culturally relevant to our audience and community and one of the fastest growing communities in Sydney is the Australian-Korean community. We really want to program and engage with that community. So that was one of the driving reasons for the idea of a K-Pop concert.”
