New Music Discoveries 10th February: Daphnie, the GOLDEN DREGS, Georgia Mooney and more

We have added ten more tracks to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music; including two singles we exclusively premiered earlier in the week. Our Track of the Week is “Digital Bullshit” from Sydney LGBTQ alternative pop artist Daphnie.

We’re big fans of Daphnie at the AU and they’re onto another winner with “Digital Bullshit”, a track which embraces the chaos in the best possible way. According to Daphnie, the track “is a story about breaking up with someone and wanting to be friends, just as they travel overseas and seem to have the best time without you.”

Energetic, ‘extra’, and incredibly fun, the track really highlights Daphne’s gift at crafting these striking, often introspective pop songs that just sparkle and demand the listener’s attention.

“Catch”, featuring MAMAMOO’s Hwa Sa, is the title track from Epik High’s latest EP Strawberry. Their album heralds a new chapter; following their two-part Epik High Is Here album series, the iconic hip-hop trio reiterate and re-emphasise their dedication to evolving while remaining true to who they are.

Georgia Mooney of All Our Exes Live in Texas fame has released her debut single, the lush and epic “War Romance”. It has the feeling of an epic love story. Will Georgia be able to find a love to see out the war with? “War Romance” is the first taste from her debut solo album which will drop later in 2023. Check out the video which features comedian Rhys Nicholson in drag.

Kizzy Davies is an emerging singer/songwriter from Naarm/Melbourne, who releases her music under the Possum moniker. “Night Out in South Melbourne” tells the tale of a young girl on a night out, and the potential hazards that might befall her. It’s a vivid and evocative journey from the talented artist. Possum will be launching the single at the The Retreat Hotel, Brunswick on 16th Feb 2023

“American Airlines” is taken from On Grace & Dignity, the third album from the GOLDEN DREGS – the project of Cornish singer-songwriter Benjamin Woods. The album was born in lockdown 2020 when Woods was forced to move back to his childhood home. It’s an album that’s inspired by Cornwall, a county in the South West of England, the good and the bad. Come for the engaging storytelling and songwriting, and stay for that stunning vocal. For fans of Bill Callahan and others.

“Was It Really Anything?” is a collaboration between Western Australian duo The Money War, and Melbourne’s FEELDS. Beautiful harmonies, sweet slide guitars and an upbeat melody has this one serving up a buoyant and joyful dose of indie folk rock.

We also have two exclusive premieres from Hannah Macklin and Stuffy Shmitt.
