Twitter has launched its Moments feature in Australia

Twitter has launched its Moments feature in Australia on Wednesday, offering users a dedicated feed of the latest breaking and trending news.

On Twitter’s website, iOS and Android apps, the Moments button shows up as a lightning bolt in the top menu bar, between the ‘Home and Notifications’ tabs.

Using a narrative format with a short blurb, Moments brings multiple Tweets together by using images, videos and GIFS. Moments are organised in five categories – Today, News, Sports, Entertainment and Fun.

While a hashtag feed is still present, Moments has shifted Twitter’s focus from following the right users to get the story, to now following an event where users will get all the relevant Tweets delivered directly to their timeline. When the story has stopped trending, users will unfollow the story automatically.

This isn’t the first time that Twitter has launched a ‘Moments’ related tool. In 2014, Twitter launched its #OwnTheMoment planner, which was an attempt to engage users, particularly companies who advertise on Twitter to target key calendar dates involving upcoming TV, sporting, cultural, business, and Twitter events.

Earlier this year, Twitter’s stock was reported at hitting an all-time low.  According to TechCrunch, stocks went as low at $16.43, before finally closing for the day at $16.69, which was down nearly 7% from its opening price.

Moments has also been launched in the US, Britain, and Brazil – making Australia the fourth country to access the feature.

Since its launch in Australia, some key Twitter moments include Cardinal George Pell, Melbourne Victory, Foo Fighters and Finding Dory.
